2026/03/26 Season Kickoff

This road isn’t just one where you need to watch out for deer—you should keep an eye out for bears, too. When you’re driving, you might not notice anything, but it’s not unheard of to feel a gaze coming from up the slope on your right.

Anyway, the weather was nice and most of the snow had melted, so I went for a light ride to get back into shape. It was about a 50 km route, with a break along the way, taking a little over three hours in total. (Whether you’d call that “light” probably depends on the person, but to me, it feels pretty light.)

This time, my destination was Daiichi Shokudo in Kamifurano. Lately, it’s been popping up here and there in short videos on YouTube and Instagram, and it also reminded me of a friend who used to live in Furano and really liked the place.

It’s the kind of old-school diner that serves simple, comforting food—the ramen is pretty standard, you could say. But that’s exactly what makes it so good. You chat a bit with the lady who runs the place, have a quick meal, and head out again. For a cycling refuel stop, that’s just about perfect.
